Oh, Huh! You Can TOO Go Home Again!
So, in my “Senior Prophecy” back in 1984 … yes, I said, 1984! (Please don’t do the math about my graduation date because the sum will just be Lori = Old. )
In that prophecy, my classmates in my small Wyoming town determined that I would become a nun and start an orphanage in an even smaller nearby town. So, not being Catholic put the kabosh on the nun idea, and I moved far away from either of these two little towns, which was strike two, BUT it turns out I DID at least end up being a “general do-gooder, ”
I created Everybody Matters in Phoenix, Arizona, to help kiddos who were kind of “falling through the cracks” and ensure they could get the social emotional support they need right in their schools. It was terrific. Kids got better and they got better fast.
And then -- check this part out -- so as not to let my high school classmates down by not fulfilling the prophecy , I took Everybody Matters back to my small hometown and said to the schools, “Come on! Let’s do a pilot program called Skills of Success! Let’s see if our big city strategies will help kiddos here!” And they, because they are super smart and cowboy like, said, “Yep. Okay. Let’s git her done!” And we did.
And here’s what we found out: the students who participated self reported a significant improvement in: managing their stress, their anger, their sad feelings and their nervousness. They improved in: liking myself, feeling confident, and the ability to see someone else’s perspective, which basically means they increased their levels of empathy. These kids got better, and they got better fast.
Show up with purpose and leave feeling rewarded. By the end of the Everybody Matters AZ internship, you will feel entirely confident to enter the field. Sign up today to start your internship!
