Lori Madrid, MSW, LCSW
Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Lori Madrid, a 2021 ASU Field Educator of the Year, is a licensed clinical social worker and certified trauma professional with over 25 years experience. She founded Everybody Matters as a non-profit to train college level social work interns to teach lifelong coping and social skills, free of charge, to children in the school system who are unable to access those services elsewhere.

Each year, Everybody Matters serves over 1,200 students providing more than 10,000 face to face meetings. They are impacting schools across Arizona and plan to expand throughout the country.

Lori’s experience includes providing therapeutic services in a variety of settings including: working with families who are unsheltered in Spanish Harlem; providing outpatient therapy to foster children in the South Bronx; facilitating group, family, individual and equine therapy with children in psychiatric residential treatment and also working within the Title 1 School System.

Lori is strongly committed to supporting the Social Work field itself and has been actively involved in teaching in BSW and MSW programs at Arizona State University, Colorado State University, the University of Wyoming and Western New Mexico University. She has also consistently served as a field instructor and is passionate about mentoring the next generation of social workers.

Bob Burgess, MBA
Chief Operating Officer

Bob joined Everybody Matters in 2018 and provides day-to-day over-site, financial and human resources leadership and management mirroring the purpose, mission and values of Everybody Matters

Throughout his career, Bob’s leadership has supported more efficient and optimized business operations for public and private sector organizations, including effective strategic planning implementation and successfully managing teams.

Bob received his Masters in Business Administration from Northwest Missouri State University, and his Bachelor of Arts from Northern Michigan University. He has presented on Change Management, as well as being selected to sit on and/or chair numerous industry leadership committees.

Bob is an active volunteer for church and community groups. As a former employee of Kansas State University, he’s an enthusiastic fan of their athletics program. When he’s not working, Bob enjoys drives exploring both the desert and mountains in his Mini Cooper (Sir Nigel Murray) and exploring micro-brews with his wife, Donna.

Tristan Peterson-Steinert, LMSW
Program Director

Tristan Peterson-Steinert joined the Everybody Matters Team first as an intern in 2018, and joined the staff in 2019 as the Director of Development. Originally a native of Maine, Tristan is a recent transplant to Colorado, and, in his current role, he oversees the school-based program and Everybody Thrives across all of our sites. Tristan’s background is in crisis work, and in addition to his role at Everybody Matters, he works at an inpatient facility in Colorado.

Tristan is passionate about music, social justice issues, and really bad jokes. He holds dual Bachelor’s degrees in Social Work and Nonprofit Leadership and Management from Arizona State University and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Northern Arizona University. In his free time, Tristan enjoys reading, watching Netflix, and making music.

Ashley Hanson, LMSW
Program Coordinator & Team Leader, Mesa District

Ashley Hanson graduated from Horizon High School and started working in the Paradise Valley Unified School District for the after-school 21st Century grant, After the Bell Program for 7 years. She graduated with her Bachelor's in Science with an emphasis on Family and Human Development at Arizona State University (ASU). She interned with Everybody Matters for a semester and found her passion for Social Work. She has her Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from Walden University. 

Ashley, who was hired as a Team Leader and then promoted to Program Coordinator for Everybody Matters, finds working with interns and kiddos very rewarding. She continues to manage interns in Mesa Public Schools while also coordinating the many aspects of the program.

Jessica Burns, MSW, LCSW


Senior Team Leader, Northern Arizona & Telehealth Services

Jessica began her journey with Everybody Matters as an intern in 2016. She graduated with a Bachelors and Masters in Social Work from Arizona State University. She currently is licensed as a Clinical Level Social Worker and has experience in working with children, adolescents and families in individual group and family settings using a trauma informed approach. She also has experience in working within the child welfare and school based title one settings.

Jessica became certified with the EAGALA method in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and has a passion for the outdoors and animals.

In her free time, Jessica enjoys spending her time with her dogs, getting outdoors and traveling. Jessica was hired in 2021 and is currently a Senior Team Leader with Everybody Matters.

Shelby Monaghan, LMSW

Senior Team Leader, Paradise Valley and Balsz

Shelby Monaghan was an intern in 2016, and re-joined Everybody Matters in 2021 and is a Team Leader and Supervisor..

Shelby grew up in the Paradise Valley School District and graduated from Shadow Mountain High School. She went on to the University of Arizona and received her bachelors in Family Studies and Human Development with a minor in Public Health. During the last year of her bachelors program, she interned at Catholic Charities in the Refugee Department as she worked with incoming Refugee families and helped them get settled in their new home. Upon graduation, she applied for the MSW program at ASU and began her journey into social work. During her master program, Shelby was an intern for Everybody Matters and went on to be a school social worker for 2 years. She then moved into a private practice that focused on adult mental health, but shortly realized children and families were her calling. With Everybody Matters being near and dear to her heart, she rejoined the team as a Team Leader and Supervisor.

In her new role, Shelby finds her bucket filled and is proud to be a part of this amazing team.

Kenneth Jugan, LMSW


Team Leader, Miami (AZ)

Kenneth Jugan graduated from Northern Arizona University (NAU) with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2020. While pursuing his education in the medical field, Kenneth realized his calling was to work in mental health. After deciding to pursue his Master of Social Work at Arizona State University (ASU) and learning about Everybody Matters, he began an internship in 2021. During his second year, Kenneth interned at several private practices where he saw a variety of clients as a therapist using trauma-informed techniques to provide services. Once fully graduated in 2023, Kenneth re-joined the Everybody Matters team as a Team Leader.

In his spare time, Kenneth enjoys cooking, exercising, gaming, reading, and music. He is passionate about spending time with his family, friends, and pets.

Millie Cotto, MSW, LCSW
Intern Supervisor

Mildred Cotto joined Everybody Matters in 2019 following a 26 year career as a school social worker both in the Roosevelt and Paradise Valley School Districts. Millie is originally from Brooklyn, New York and moved to Arizona in 1993 where she graduated with her MSW from Arizona State University. As a social worker primarily in Title 1 schools, Millie was an integral member of a team whose goal was to enhance and improve the educational experience for the students in the district. As a devoted advocate for her students and staff, Millie served as an invaluable resource for the elementary school staff with a concrete knowledge of different theoretical frameworks designed to manage the challenging student populations of the schools.

Millie has been married for 28 years and has one son who is a recent graduate of Northern Arizona University. Millie is proud to be the grandparent to her son’s dog named Dutch.

Lisa Fluckiger, M.Ed.

Support Staff

Lisa Phair Fluckiger joined Everybody Matters in 2020 where she was trained to use solution-focused modalities to help launch the Everybody Matters Skills Of Success program in Wyoming. and while also helping process student referrals.  Her background is in science (Chemistry B.A., Brigham Young University) and secondary education.  Lisa has focused on community and connection in her teaching and volunteer work, and earned her master’s degree in Education in 2012 (Concordia University) with an emphasis in creating an inclusive classroom environment.  


In addition to her work with Everybody Matters, Lisa has volunteered to teach early morning courses for high school students and has directed a summer youth theater workshop for 17 years.  In her free time, she enjoys her family time, her dogs, and long walks..
