Our interns teach coping and social skills to students in K–12 schools, using theories and techniques that apply to multiple areas within the helping professions. You will learn aspects of best practices for supporting individuals, families, groups and communities - with an emphasis on one to one meetings with students. This is a robust practice experience and interns average at least 150 meetings with their students throughout the year. Provided with focused supervision each week, interns report feeling prepared to enter the workforce upon completion and 100% of graduating interns would recommend this internship to other interns. We know this sounds impossible, but , well it’s just true. Everybody Matters interns have historically found jobs quickly after graduation and often receive multiple offers.

 About the Everybody Matters Internship

IMG 2.png

The Everybody Matters Internship Program enables interns to apply current theory and practice in a real-world setting with actual clients—who are primarily K–12 students. Interns also learn to identify ethical dilemmas, choose effective assessment processes, determine and develop intervention strategies, and support their decisions with critical thinking and effective communication.

The Undergraduate Internship focuses on relevant, entry-level experiences and developing professional skills, including communication, teamwork and critical thinking. The Graduate Internship prepares master’s-level students for more advanced job roles or specializations. In all programs, interns work under the guidance of a team of experienced, licensed social workers.

On average, interns carry a caseload of 12–20 students with whom they meet weekly. This provides the opportunity to practice a variety of intervention strategies and modalities. To ensure that each client receives the optimal support, we individualize each intervention using a “cafeteria model” for choosing treatments and strategies. Last year, each intern completed over 150 meetings with their clients.

The program is not easy, but it is rewarding, and it produces top-tier social workers. In a 2023 survey, 100% of our interns recommended this internship to other interns.

Everybody Matters accepts students who are studying social work or a related field, including counseling, psychology, and family & human development. Students attending any accredited college or university are eligible throughout the nation, but they must conduct their internship with an Everybody Matters placement in Arizona.
